About this project

The Scottish Commission for People with Learning Disabilities’ (SCLD) vision is of a fairer Scotland where people with learning disabilities live full, safe, loving and equal lives.

We are a human rights defending policy organisation, working to uphold, protect and raise awareness of the human rights of people with learning disabilities.

About SCLD’s Gender-Based Violence and Learning Disability Project

SCLD’s Gender-Based Violence and Learning Disability project is funded by the Scottish Government‘s Delivering Equally Safe Fund.

The project has been designed and delivered in partnership with People First Scotland’s Equally Safe Group, with the aim of ensuring that women and girls with learning disabilities, and the services who support them, are better able to recognise and report abuse, and to access justice and support for gender-based violence.

This will mean that both learning disability services and universal gender-based violence services are able to provide accessible, holistic and effective support to women with learning disabilities when they experience gender-based violence.

As part of this project, we have co-produced this gender-based violence toolkit.

The aim of Equally Safe and Supported is for it to be used by support services to understand the barriers women with learning disabilities face when accessing support and to identify where change is needed.
